dkt was formed in 1979 by Niki Davies, Steve Keeling and Sean Trowbridge who, as arts graduates, were excited by the potential they saw in the decorative arts. The early 80's proved to be a period of re-emerging interest in the this field with dkt very much a part of the revival.
We won our first overseas contract in 1981 and opened our first workshop in 1984. Since then we have consolidated our on-site expertise, considerably developed the studio aspect of our work and won contracts from around the world.
As other talented artists and crafstpeople joined us, we developed into the much larger, more adaptable workforce which remains the essence of the dkt model. The current team is around 25 strong with in-house expertise spanning painting and sculpture, industrial design, carving, restoration, gilding, textiles, signwriting, specialist decoration, graphics, management and CAD.
Over the years we have developed a formidable skill base with an outstanding archive of photographs, samples, techniques, formulae and reference material, stretching right back to the early days of the company. We have also built up valuable associations with like-minded, quality conscious companies in the overlapping fields of manufacturing, technology and crafts, which has greatly enhanced our scope and capability.
In 2007 we moved to our current location, in London, where a superbly flexible and accessible studio and showroom provides an ideal space for the diverse projects which we now undertake
